Type species: insolitus Walker ([1857 June 9] 1855): 634) is from Bangladesh (Syllet).

Generic description: Glanycus is a small Indo-Asian, tropical genus, of six medium sized but robust moths. They are often day flying but can be collected at light. Their bluish-black, red and white colouration is thought to be aposematic and the species are presumed to be distasteful to predators. They have a very broad thorax and a stout, furry, body and HW fenestrae are present. The three species on this site occur in SE Asia and three other species occur in China (G. foochowensis Chu & Wang (1991), G. sigionus Chu & Wang (1991) and Glonycus [sic] blachieri (Oberthür, 1910).
